Serial to Ethernet Connector (SEC) is an application from Eltima that allows a computer on a network to share one or more serial ports with other computers on the network. With it, you can have many virtual COM ports representing serial devices over a network.
SEC conveniently runs on Windows, Windows Mobile, as well as Linux. It also has a streamlined and efficient interface that simplifies the tasks of creating server and client connections. Server connections link a serial port to a TCP or UDP port on the server that listens for requests. Up to 500 serial port devices can be shared. Client connections connect to the server over the network using the TCP/IP or UDP/IP protocol and can remotely access the serial ports on the server.
A computer with serial ports can be used as a server with multiple clients connected and accessing its serial devices. It is possible for a client to connect to the server running SEC, even if the client does not have SEC on it. Additionally, using virtual serial ports, it is possible to connect two applications over a LAN. If you need to use an application that does not support the server’s operating system, it is possible to use a virtual machine with SEC to establish the connection to the serial device.
Additionally, on the client side, you can have as many virtual serial ports that your system can support. A virtual serial port is used as a regular serial port and can support fast speeds up to 256 Kbits.
When you purchase a license, you get two copies to install. One is for the client and the other is for the server.
